MONTGOMERY – Gov. Bob Riley today appointed Troy King to serve as Alabama’s Attorney General.  King, 35, has served as Legal Advisor in the Riley Administration since Jan. 2003 and previously worked as Assistant Attorney General for four years and in the administration of former Gov. Fob James.

“Troy King is committed to honest and fair government for every Alabama citizen.  He is a man of great integrity, a man of principle and a man who knows the law,” Gov. Riley said.  “He will make all Alabamians proud to call him their Attorney General.”

After appointing him, Gov. Riley swore King into office in a ceremony in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol.  King’s wife Paige held the Bible he rested his hand on as King took the oath of office.

“Governor, for the last 14 months you have allowed me to serve you and the people of Alabama as your Legal Advisor.  That has been an awesome privilege and I thank you.  Now you have entrusted me with serving as Legal Advisor to all the people of Alabama.  I will work tirelessly to execute my responsibilities as Attorney General in a way that earns the confidence of all who depend upon this office,” King said.

King will fill the unexpired term of former Attorney General Bill Pryor, who resigned on Feb. 20 to accept an appointment from President Bush to become a member of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

From Jan. 1999 to Jan. 2003, King served as Assistant Attorney General under Pryor.  During the James Administration from Oct. 1995 to Jan. 1999, King served in several positions including Deputy Legal Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff.

A native of Elba, King graduated with honors from Troy State University in 1990 and earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1994.

King is married to the former Paige Pinson of Montgomery.  They have three young children – son Briggs and daughters Colden and Asher.
