August 31, 2005 Governor Riley Says Disaster Volunteers Can Sign Up Online MONTGOMERY – Alabamians who want to volunteer for disaster relief efforts can sign up over the Internet through the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, Governor Bob Riley said today.
“The caring and compassionate spirit of Alabamians is truly awe-inspiring. I’m hearing from a tremendous number of Alabamians who want to volunteer and help others deal with this tragedy,” Governor Riley said. “Through our Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, those wishing to volunteer can sign up easily over the Internet and we will help direct them where they are needed the most.”
The website where Alabamians can sign up to volunteer is www.servealabama.gov/.
Individuals are asked to provide their contact information and list skills they have that are especially helpful in hurricane recovery efforts, such as emergency medical training, and experience as heavy equipment operators, social workers and drivers.
