January 14, 2010 Governor Riley Comments on Legislatures Killing of Ethics Code Developed by Teachers MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley commented on the Legislatures rejection of an ethics code for educators that was developed by teachers: The ethical standards in this code arent vague at all. Theyre common sense and should be supported by all parents, teachers and legislators. I cant believe anyone would kill ethical standards developed by teachers for teachers to improve their profession. Among the so-called controversial standards in the ethics code that the AEA and some legislators claim are vague include those that that say teachers should not falsify records or reports, should maintain a professional relationship with students, should not use profanity, should handle school money honestly and responsibly, and should not use alcohol or tobacco at school or at school-related functions in the presence of students. | |
